Welcome and Opening
Dr. Le Quoc Khanh ( Vice Minister of Industry and Vice-President of the Chemical Society of Vietnam) welcomed the delegates to Hanoi.
Dr. Minella Alarcon from the Jakarta office of UNESCO thanked Dr. Le Quoc Khanh and welcomed delegates on behalf of UNESCO.
Following a group photograph, Dr. Barry Noller, Chairman of ACGC, introduced the 25 international participants.
Dr. Le Van Nguyen, Secretary of the Chemical Society of Vietnam, introduced the 5 Vietnamese delegates.

Minutes of ACGCXIII
On the motion of Lim Teck Thai, seconded by Mohinder Singh, the Minutes of ACGC XIII , prepared by Steven Pyne and John Webb, were accepted.
Matters arising from the Minutes:
Barry Noller commented on the considerable effort required to support planning for ASOMPS IX and X. Dr. Singh requested that the administrative structure of ACGC be considered separately. Barry Noller reported that UNESCO Jakarta had accepted ACGC as an activity under its Programme of Activities.
ACGC Chemical Research Comunications
Dr. Steve Pyne, the Editor of this journal, reported on progress to date and the plans that, as from Volume 7, the journal will be on the WorldWideWeb.
Prof. Cannon commented on several aspects of the Minutes from the meeting of the ACGC CRC Board; he suggested review articles be included within the scope of the journal.
Questions of copyright and the need for a signed disclaimer were also noted.
Future meetings: The future meetings were agreed to be held in Kunming in 1999 and then in Dhaka following ASOMPS X.
Elections: The three officers were re-elected: Prof Noller as Chair, Prof Webb as Secretary and Datuk Dr. Mohinder Singh as Treasurer.
Close of meeting: the meeting closed with thanks to the hosts, the Chemical Society of Vietnam for their support and hospitality.
